About Me
Dr Aneshree Moodley developed a keen interest in mental health during her undergraduate years at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. In 2011, Dr Moodley completed her specialist training in psychiatry at the University of Cape Town. During her postgraduate studies, Dr Moodley’s research into substance use, particularly methamphetamine (“tik”/crystal meth), earned her recognition and several awards including:
- Registrar MMED of the Year – Department of Psychiatry, University of Cape Town
- Mary Robertson Research Prize – Faculty of Medicine, University of Cape Town
- South African Society of Psychiatrists Research Prize
Dr Moodley practiced within the state healthcare sector for five years, and applied her expertise in substance use disorders at Stikland Hospital. She developed her interest in women’s mental health at Valkenberg Hospital, and championed their women’s reproductive health awareness and contraception campaign.
In 2016, she was awarded a fellowship with the Mandela Washington Fellowship in the USA. Dr Moodley studied and worked in Illinois and Pennsylvania, expanding her skills and knowledge in public health management.
Dr Moodley currently runs a busy and rewarding private practice based in Milnerton, Cape Town. Her areas of interest are women’s mental health, substance use disorders, anxiety disorders and mood disorders. She continues to represent the South African Society of Psychiatrists in media releases and outreach work.
In her personal life, Dr Moodley enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones. She actively pursues her hobbies, which include cooking, reading, walks in nature, dancing, and swimming.
